Dr. Nicolò Manicardi
Musician | Ancient Greek Lyre Specialist | PhD in Translational Medicine
Dr. Nicolò Manicardi is a dedicated musician and scholar with a unique background that bridges the worlds of science, classical music, and ancient Greek culture. Born in La Spezia, Italy, in 1988, he began his musical journey at the age of seven with classical piano training. Over the years, his passion for music deepened, particularly in the works of classical composers and the philosophical roots of musical expression.
While pursuing a rigorous academic path in the sciences, Dr. Manicardi completed a degree in Pharmacy and earned a Ph.D. in Translational Medicine in Barcelona. However, despite his success in research, his heart was drawn back to the arts—and particularly to the study and performance of ancient Greek music.
Driven by a lifelong fascination with Greek philosophy, poetry, and musical heritage, he began his formal training in the seven-stringed ancient Greek lyre under the mentorship of Dr. Nikolaos Xanthoulis. In December 2023, he was awarded the Diploma in Ancient Greek Lyre Performance from the Municipal Conservatory of Nikaia (Athens), marking a significant step in his musical evolution.
Now based in Barcelona, Dr. Manicardi continues to broaden his musical perspective by studying flamenco guitar under Maestro Rafael Cañizares, seeking to connect ancient traditions with modern expression.
With a holistic approach to learning and a deep respect for the revival of ancient Greek music, Dr. Manicardi is an active member of the International Lyre Society and offers insightful instruction for students eager to explore this timeless instrument.
As he often says:
“I love learning music. It’s the most sincere way I connect with the world.”
